dc.description.abstract-translatedThe silk produced by caterpillars is a composite polymer of several proteins. H-fibroin,L-fibroin and P25 glycoprotein form the silk filament, the inner sericines join the fillaments and the surface sericines glue the fibers together when a cocoon is spun. Composition of silk filaments seems to remain identical during the development, as indicated by sustained expression of the L-fibroin, P25 and H-fibroin genes. However, the change in fiber function occurs concurrently with a transition of the expression profile of the sericine genes. The study demonstrates that silk fiber properities are changed throughout larval life of Galleria mellonella.eng
