Defence started: 10:45

Presentation: 10:45-11:05

Supervisor Pavel Linhart read his assesment

Reviewer 1 Irena Schneiderová presented her review and raised following questions: 1) Is the term song indeed used in such a vague way in the literature on bird vocalizations? 2) Is the value of HS statistics sufficient for discriminating individuals? Student responded satisfactory to both questions.

Reviewer 2 Jan Riegert presented his review and made several notes and asked following questions: 1) Since the birds were not individually marked, how can the author exclude the possibility of recording another individual at the same site during the repeated recordings? 2) Can you put more detils on the field sampling? 3) Did You also note duetting behaviour for P. bilineatus? Student responded satisfactory to all the questions.

Questions from the board:

Petr Veselý: Causes of the nonsignificant result of the Mantel test of distance vs. song, Kateřina Sam: What is the relation between distance and habitat? Vojtěch Novotný: What is the extend of individual variability vs. the population variability? Are the differences between two populations functional? Radka Piálková: How big are the populations in different habitats?

Student responded all questions satisfactory.

Questions from the public: None

Grading: very good (8x very good, 3x excellent)
