| dc.description.abstract-translated | This work focuses on gut bacterial microbiome of an endangered species, European ground squirrel (EGS), which occurs in the Czech Republic only in relict fragmented populations of a disappearing tendency. It provides an initial insight into the structure and diversity of the gut microbiome of EGS and its intestinal parasites present in faeces. Basic features of the gut microbiomes of EGS differing in food resources (natural vs. artificially fed) were also compared. The results of the analyses showed that the gut microbiomes at the studied localities have a similar structure and diversity, and that they do not differ based on the presence of detected parasites. Methods of classical parasitology together with modern methods of molecular biology, and bioinformatic analyses were used to fulfill the aims of the study. The obtained results may be important for the protection of this endangered species. | eng |
