dc.description.abstract-translated | The percentage of CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes in suckling rabbits was investigated by use of flow cytometry. Two coccidia species were used in the experiments: highly immunogenic Eimeria intestinalis and weakly immunogenic E. flavescens. No significant changes were observed in mesenteric lymph nodes except in rabbit inoculated at 33 days of age with E. intestinalis, when the percentage of CD8+ cells was significantly enhanced compared to control animals. After infection with E. intestinalis, the percentage of both CD4+ and CD8+ cells was enhanced in the intestinal epithelium from 22 days of age onwards. In contrast, only the percentage of intraepithelial CD4+ cells was increased in the rabbits inoculated at 33 days of age after infection with E. flavescens. | eng |
