| dc.description.abstract | Cílem práce jsou faktory, které se výrazně podílely na vítězství římské republiky nad Kartágem během druhé punské války (218-201 př. n. l.). Práce sleduje vnitřní vývoj římské politiky v tomto období a také vztah Říma ke spojencům na území Itálie; kromě toho si všímá otázek ekonomických, sociálních a vojenských.
Jádrem práce je položená otázka, jak vůbec Řím mohl uhájit svou holou existenci v době, kdy Hannibal opakovaně porážel římské armády a hrozil dobytím samotného Říma. Klíčový je zde poměr Říma ke svým spojencům a také míra stability římského politického systému. Práce na tyto otázky odpovídá za využití moderní odborné literatury a rozborem dobových zdrojů. | cze |

| dc.description.abstract-translated | This paper deals with the factors that significantly contributed to the victory of the Roman Republic over Carthage during the Second Punic War (218-203 BC). The work follows the internal development of Roman politics in this period and also the relationship of Rome to the allies; it also notes economic, social and military issues.
At the heart of the paper is the question of how Rome could have defended its bare existence at a time when Hannibal repeatedly defeated the Roman armies and threatened to conquer Rome itself. The key factor here is the relationship of Rome to its allies and the degree of stability of the Roman political system. These questions were answered using modern literature and analysis of contemporary sources. | eng |
