alpha-GAL immunity in fish and its potential for modulating the effect of parasitic infections
Abstrakt
Sphaerospora molnari is a myxozoan parasite causing systemic immune responses and hemolytic anemia in Cyprinus carpio. This study aimed to stimulate protective immunity against S. molnari through the administration of a probiotic treatment containing -GAL-rich Escherichia coli strain (Nissle 1917). Feed enriched with varying doses of lyophilized bacteria was used alongside gavage and intraperitoneal injection methods in six treatment groups. Infection progression was monitored through flow cytometry, qPCR assays, and ELISA tests for antibody titers. Results showed that the E. coli vaccine provided immediate protective immunity, reducing the severity of hemolytic anemia. The findings of this study provide valuable knowledge for future research and development of a probiotic in-feed product against parasitic infections of fish.
